1. Mechanism for Marketing of Minor Forest Produce (MFP) through Minimum Support Price (MSP) and Development of Value Chain for MFP
Objective of the scheme:-
- Development of value chain for MFP
- To ensure fair returns to the MFP gatherers
- To protect the Tribal MFP gatherers from exploitation by Middlemen
- Socio economic development of Tribal MFP gatherers
Main features of the Scheme:-
- Scheme to be implemented in States having Scheduled Areas and Scheduled Tribes
- MFP Coverage of items namely: Seeded Tamarind, Honey, Gum Karaya, Karanj Seed, Mahuwa Seed, Sal seed, Sal leaves, Chironjee Seed, Myrobalan, Kusumi Lac, Rangeeni Lac, Kusumi Seedlac, Tendu Leaves and Bamboo.
- Working Capital Contribution
Central Government - 75 %
State Government - 25 %
- Scheme implemented by State Nodal Department (SND) and State Procurement Agency (SPA)
- JASCOLAMPF - Notified as State Procurement Agency for Lac
- Procurement through Primary Procuring Agencies (PPA) like Primary Co-operative societies/SHG’s/ JFMC’s / LAMPS, VDVK’s etc.

2. Scientific training on Lac Cultivation:-
Scientific training on Lac Cultivation and its best practices is organized for training Lac growers of the Primary Co-operative Societies, VDVK’s, FPO’s etc for promotion of scientific lac cultivation techniques and its best practices.. The training duration is of Five days (Institutional – Four days & Field training – One day). Training is provided by Indian Institute of natural Resins & Gums, (IINRG-ICAR). Training is imparted free of cost with accommodation and fooding facility. However, the beneficiaries have to pay their To and Fro transportation charges.
The training programme includes the different steps of Lac cultivation such as:
- Lac Host Plant management
- Lac Seed Inoculation
- Pest and Disease Control
- Harvesting and Seed Preservation
- Post Harvest Treatment
Distribution of Toolkits & Equipments: Toolkits & equipments that are used in Lac cultivation is distributed among the trained Lac farmers on subsidized rate (90% subsidy).

3. Lac value addition training programme
Sticklac / Scraped Lac are the raw material that is sold by the farmers in Gramin haats. Sticklac is then converted into Seedlac (Semi finished material). Seedlac is then converted to shellac of various grades either by handmade process in cottage industries or in machine- made process in mechanized industries. Seedlac, Button Lac & Sealing stick can be made manually in the cottage industries at village level.
The training duration is of ten days where the trainees are skilled on primary level value addition of lac (Seedlac, Button lac & Lac Sealing Stick)
Shellac & Bleached shellac is used in Pharmaceutical, Cosmetic & Jewellery, Food coating, Electrical industry etc. whereas the Aleuritic acid is mainly used in perfumes and pharmaceutical industry.
